Meldi Hidayat first learned aikido back in 1998 under the guidance of Bulungan Aikido Dojo senior practitioners, like Hery Muryantono, Totok Murdiyanto, and Anastasia Indry. Though it was not long, he still managed to train with Satoru Shigekoshi Sensei. Through the years of his training, he attended many international aikido seminars, such as Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan’s (8th Dan of New York Aikikai), Seichi Sugano Shihan's (8th Dan of New York Aikikai), and Donovan Waite Shihan's (7th Dan of New York Aikikai).

By 2005, he earned his 1st Dan from Aikikai Foundation, Aikido World Headquarters. In order to improve his techniques, he then became an apprentice of two France teachers. They are Frederic Huet Sensei (5th Dan) and Patrick Ponsoda Sensei (5th Dan). Since 2006, he has been in charge as an instructor at Bulungan Aikido Dojo and Freeport-McMoRan Kaswari Dojo. In 2008, he received his 2nd Dan from grading examiner Takeshi Kanazawa Shihan (6th Dan).
