Herry Sukardi first learned aikido at PTIK Aikido Club in 1995. However, he frequently took classes at Bulungan Aikido Dojo to train under the supervision of Atsushi Yahagi who was by that time held the rank of 3rd Dan. By 1998, he followed Atsushi Yahagi back to Japan for studying with the masters. At his 3rd Kyu, he was already officially registered as a member of Hombu Dojo. During his time in Japan, he managed to practice under the guidance of Hiroshi Isoyama (8th Dan) at Fujishiro Dojo in Ibaraki. He was frequently selected as one of the participants in many demonstrations and attended many summer trainings and also seminars of Doshu, Moriteru Ueshiba.
At the age 26, he returned to his homeland and has practiced at Bulungan Aikido Dojo ever since. He continued to develop his basic techniques by attending Seichi Sugano Shihan’s regular seminars from 2000 to 2005. In 2006, he earned his 1st Dan certified by Aikikai Foundation, Aikido World Headquarters. To improve his knowledge, he became an apprentice of Frederic Huet (5th Dan) and Patrick Ponsoda (5th Dan). Today, his excellent aikido history has made him as one of the respected seniors at Bulungan Aikido Dojo.
